About Us

We are a very forward looking Guild, being one of the largest in Scotland.

We have a very healthy membership (60) and are happy to say that we have 12 fireside members.

New sessions begin each October and a Dedication Service is held in Skene Church on the Sunday prior to our first meeting.  Our meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, in Trinity Church Westhill starting at 2.00 p.m., and are relaxed, with varied speakers (usually connected with our theme for that year) and Christian worship.  Our December meeting is our Christmas Party Night.  We hold a Summer Fayre on the first Saturday in June and this is followed by an outing on the Monday evening.  Our very successful Summer Fayre is always a busy time for members and, throughout the year, we raise funds for a variety of causes.

The Annual Guild Conference is held in Dundee in August and around 4/5 members attend to represent Skene Guild.  Skene Guild is part of Gordon Presbyterial Council and to enable Guilds to plan for their forthcoming session a theme training day is held in March each year.

Our theme for the coming years is derived from our motto 'Whose we are and Whom we serve'.  This is taken from Acts 27 verse 23, as Paul said “the God whose I am and Whom I worship”.  The Church of Scotland Guild celebrates its 125th birthday this year and we are delighted to announce that Skene Guild will celebrate its Centenary next year.  Preparations are underway to celebrate this wonderful achievement.

Dr Archibald H Charteris was the founder of the Church of Scotland Woman’s Guild in 1887 and Skene Guild was started by the Reverend John McMurtrie in 1913.  Mrs Mary McMurtrie, his wife, was one of Past Presidents who sadly passed away aged 100 years just after our 90th birthday celebrations.  The current constitution of the Guild was adopted in 1997, after a major review of the present organisation's predecessor, the Woman's Guild. In 2003, and again in 2010, the Guild reviewed its constitution to ensure more inclusive language was used and to take account of the need for flexibility in local groups.
